Growth and Development of Hindu High School:

Our Proprietors

Late Shri M.P.Kulkarnee (Nuna Master) 01.01.1909 to 10.06.1945

Late Shri G.S.Wagle (Dhimanna) 01.01.1909 to 19.01.1940

These two “Little Big Men” who with perseverance, steadfastness, remarkable confidence and above all without grumbling toiled 35 Long years to fulfill their desired goal! Nunamaster was the heart and soul of the school and as a teacher he was unrivalled. Dhimanna was a poet, a philosopher, a scholar and a real genius. They struggled hard to give a concrete shape to this institution, and as a result Hindu School became full fledged High School in 1931.

There was no dearth of pupils. What was lacking was money required for the all-sided development i.e. additional buildings/classes to accommodate 335 pupils, more trained staff, more furniture, more scientific apparatus. With no extraneous help, but Government Grant-in-aid they carried on the best tradition, never faltering, never flinching. As a result the Hindu High School was marking forward with redoubled energy and confidence.

Evolution of Karwar Education Society

A Non-Communal Public Body by name ‘The Karwar Education
Society’ came into existence in 1944. After the end of the proprietary era of the school, the K.E. Society had to prove that M.P.Kulkarnee, popularly known as Nuna master had rightly placed his darling school in the safe hands. Viz.,

Bal Mandir High School, Karwar – Pioneer in achieving Excellency

Bal Mandir opened in 1952 was to teach in Marathi. Unexpectedly and strangely enough there was a heavy demand from public for starting English Medium in this Institution. There was also provision in the seventies to change the medium at the eighth standard at the risk of the pupils. Therefore English Medium classes were introduced from Pre-Primary onwards in Bal Mandir from 1980 and from VIII to X in Hindu High School, Karwar from 1982. Hon. President,

Shri S.P.Kamat, despite of all problems at the Departmental and Government level, could able to get registration and recognition with retrospective effect. Bal Mandir is an unaided Institution, now housed in 2 separate Buildings/Blocks, having strength of 1410. Shri V.V. Phaterpekar was the First Headmaster of the present English Medium Balmandir High school.
